However, there are some instances where it is not possible for a complete treatment in one visit, and the success of the treatment and complete erradication requires that the owner follows the advice provided by the Controller and performs this over a period of time. For example flea eggs could take several weeks to hatch.
Unlike the U.K, properties here in Spain are
often unoccupied for long periods or time or are rented out to relative
strangers. It is therefore very difficult to predict the reasons
why pest problems occur.
Having said that. pests problems fall
into three categories.
Here are some examples:
1) A wasp nest is found in a wall.
Clearly not the fault of the owner, and clearly can be dealt with.
So a guarantee would be reasonable for
the pest in that treated location.
2) Occupants complain about bed bugs. Bed
bugs are travelers and are brought into the house by visitors. The more
visitors you have the more the chances of infection. So for example in a
rented property this would fall into the category of "Occupational
Hazard" and after the initial treatment, would be impossible to give a guarantee.
3) The last one is negligence on the part
of the owner. For example there is no reason why you should have mold,
rot, cockroaches, fleas, mice or rats, woodworm , termites or ticks in a
house. All these are avoidable if normal precautions (filling holes, fitting mosquito netting, fixing leaky roofs etc are taken by the owner.
It is therefore beyond our control to guarantee the activities of any pests on
a day to day or week to week basis, and this is especially the case
where structural or repair work, plumbing or electrical work has been carried
out or where the owner leaves cat food or dog food lying around for
pests to find.
And we certainly cannot guarantee the movements or
arrival of pests from neighboring properties, fields, other streets or
guests arriving/staying at the house.
So in Spain, we find that guarantees are not
useful, and are misleading in as much as making sure the customer knows exactly what is,
and what is not covered by the guarantee.
We like to give a better and more
informative reassurance to our customers.
So, on request, we will perform a
full inspection, plus provide a
written report stating exactly what was inspected, what was found, any
relevant recomendations and
then what was specifically treated in your house.
In the report we give detailed recommendations
(specific to that house and the reported pest) as to the predicted success of the treatment,
the recommendations with respect to clients responsibilities, follow up treatments, and what he/she should do to reduce the risk
of a possible re-infestation.
Also with this report is a two page general
guide (specific to that insect pest) suggesting tips and advice that
the customer can take to reduce the
need for further visits from a pest controller in the future.
To the best of our knowledge no other
pest company on the Costa Blanca does this !!
